Just got home from your local florist or market and missing a packet of floral food? Making your own floral food is a simple process that requires just a few common household ingredients. Here’s how to do it yourself
Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon bleach
- 1 teaspoons lemon juice
- 4 cups of warm water
Instructions:
Combine sugar, bleach, lemon juice and water in a clean container and mix well. Adjust the measurements as needed to accommodate your desired vase.
Cut the stems of your flowers at an angle to allow for better water uptake.
Pour the floral food mixture into a clean vase.
Arrange your flowers in the vase and make sure they are fully submerged in the water.
Change the water and floral food mixture at minimum every 2 days to ensure your flowers stay fresh and extend their longevity.
Note: The sugar provides a source of energy for the flowers, the bleach kills any bacteria in the water, and the lemon juice helps to balance the pH of the water.
